PolicyConnect Group Administrators have the ability to update context keys for their parent site only, for their parent site and all child sites or for individual sites. Additionally, group administrators have the ability to lock any changes they make so that child site administrators will be unable to override these changes.
Important note: if you apply these changes from a master site this will override the child site's context key with no opportunity to restore.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to:
- Edit a context key for the site you are currently in
- Edit a context key for the site you are currently in and all child sites
- Edit a context key for an individual site
To Edit a Context Key for the Site you are Currently in
1. Ensure that you are in your Parent Site.
2. Click the Eye icon in the top menu to enter administrator view.
3. Click the name of the module that you would like to contextualise.
4. Click the page within the module that you would like to contextualise. In the example below we’re going to contextualise the … page.
5. Select the context key you would like to edit. Context keys will appear as highlighted text, see the example below. In this example we have selected the… context key.
This will reveal the stepper feature which is a screen that allows you as a group administrators to decide if the contextualisation selections are applied to:
- The site you are currently in and/or all child sites
- Or individual child sites
6. Select the circle next to the option “This site and/or all child sites".
7. Click Next.
8. Enter the text which you would like to appear in place of the context key in your content.
9. Ensure that the checkbox next to Group Lock is not selected as we only want the changes we are making to be applied to the site we are currently in.
10. Select the circle next to "Apply change to this site only"
11.Click Update.
The change you have made to this context key should now be available in the parent site you are currently in.
To Edit a Context Key for the Site you are Currently in and all Child Sites
1. Ensure that you are in your Parent Site.
2. Click the Eye icon in the top menu to enter administrator view.
3. Click the name of the module that you would like to contextualise.
4. Click the page within the module that you would like to contextualise. In the example below we’re going to contextualise the … page.
5. Select the context key you would like to edit. Context keys will appear as highlighted text, see the example below. In this example we have selected the… context key.
This will reveal the stepper feature which is a screen that allows you as a group administrators to decide if the contextualisation selections are applied to:
- The site you are currently in and/or all child sites
- Or individual child sites
6. Select the circle next to the option “This site and/or all child sites"
7. Click Next.
8. Enter the text which you would like to appear in place of the context key in your content.
9. At this stage you can choose if you would like to:
a) Group Lock this context key which will apply this change to this site and all child sites but it will not allow child sites to edit the selected context key. To select this option:
- Click the checkbox next to Group Lock.
Or
b) Apply this change to this site and all child sites, but still allow your child sites to edit the selected context key. To select this option:
- Ensure the checkbox next to Group Lock in blank and select the circle next to “Apply change to this site and all child sites”.
10. Click Update.
To Edit a Context Key for Individual Sites
1. Ensure that you are in your Parent Site
2. Click the Eye icon in the top menu to enter administrator view.
3. Click the name of the module that you would like to contextualise.
4. Click the page within the module that you would like to contextualise. In the example below we’re going to contextualise the … page.
5. Select the context key you would like to edit. Context keys will appear as highlighted text, see the example below. In this example we have selected the… context key.
This will reveal the stepper feature which is a screen that allows you as a group administrators to decide if the contextualisation selections are applied to:
- The site you are currently in and/or all child sites
- Or individual child sites
6. Select the circle next to the option “Individual child sites”. This will reveal additional options
7. Click “Select an Update Type” and this will reveal a dropdown menu
8. Make a selection as to whether you would like to update the :
a) Value – This is the text that will appear for the selected context key
b) Lock Status – This is whether the context key is locked for this child site and disallows them to make any changes to this context key
c) Both
In this example we’re going to select the Update both option
9. Click Next. This will reveal a list of child sites and the text that currently appears in place of the selected context key. You can use the Filter button to narrow down your search options.
10. Enter the text which you would like to appear in place of the context key for the selected child site.
11. Click Next
12. Set the Lock Status to Yes or No – This will disallow or allow your child site to make changes to the context key you are currently editing. In the example below we are leaving the Lock Status as No.
13. Click Next. This will reveal a list of pages where the context key is used.
14. Click Update. This will update the context key for the selected child site.
The update to the context key should now have been applied to the individual child site you selected. If you would like to further confirm this simply:
a) Click the same context key
b) Select the Individual Child Sites option
c) Select Update both
d) Click Next and here you will see that the value for the selected child site is different from the other child sites.
