Variables are Yes/No questions that have the purpose of switching policy content on or off, depending on your answer. They serve to tailor policies and content to your specific needs.
As an example, when the IdentifiedAsbestos
variable is set to ‘Yes’, this will inform your Policy Platform that it requires policies tailored to Asbestos Management. Once a variable is set to ‘Yes’, your site will automatically update to reflect these changes.
See the images below for a comparison on the impact of switching a variable on or off:

Some variables will be filled out by your CompliSpace consultant before your site has been delivered to you. A list of variables you may find relevant can be accessed within your ‘Welcome to CompliSpace’ module, under the ‘Site and Contextualisation’ sub-headings.
Please Note: As you follow the below steps, if you notice that some of the functions are not working as described, your modules may still be in the Old Policy Format. In which case, see this How to Edit Variables (Old Policy Format) article, which will take you through the process of editing variables within the old policy format.
To Edit Variables follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to your Policy Platform
2. Click the Eye in the top menu to enter administrator view.
3. Click the Module that you would like to edit or apply variables to
4. Click the arrow next to Executive Summary.
5. Click the arrow next to Contextualisation Guide.
6. Click the arrow next to Variable Questions.
7. Select the Policy Page that you would like to edit or apply variables to.
8. Read the information in the Instruction column to inform your variable response.
9. Click the highlighted text within the Variable Column to amend or apply a response to the variable.
10. Click the arrow next to the option description, then select Yes or No.
Notes:
- Variables that have not been filled out will default to ‘No’.
- If you are working from a group parent/master site, you will be given the option to ‘Group Lock’ your variable. To learn more about group locking, please see our Group Contextualisation guide.
11. Click Save
12. Check that your content has been updated to reflect the variable change you have made.
Note: The Location in Content column indicates which policies are affected by the variable. If you are not sure how to answer a specific variable question, you can navigate to the location in content from here to see how the policy is affected by turning the variable on or off.
