Creating Courses in CompliLearn is a great way to package learning and is particularly useful if you want to include smaller learning items, such as interactives or documents. Courses allow you to track learners’ progress through a single report and enable you to reassign learning with ease.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to embed learning items into Courses from either:
The Structure Section within your Course - This is a good method to use if you know the learning item that you want to add to your course.
or
The "Search your existing learning"... section with your course - This is a good method if need to browse through the available learning items before adding them to your course.
How to Embed Learning Items into Courses from the Structure Section
1. Click My Teaching in the top menu
2. Select the Resources tab
3. Click the Create button
4. Select Course from the drop-down menu
5. Enter a title, description and image for your course.
Important notes:
a) We advise that you include the following in your Course description to ensure that your Learners' enrolments in the course are recorded:
"Please ensure that you select the Start button to begin the course"
b)The recommended dimensions for an image for your course are 700 pixels wide by 300 pixels high.
6. Click the + Add Learning button beneath the module that you want to add the learning item to
7. Select the type of Learning Item that you want to add from the dropdown menu (In this example we are selecting an Interactive file.
8. Type the name of the interactive file that you want to add. In this example we've entered The Learner Video.
9. Click the relevant interactive file that appears in the dropdown menu
10. Optional: To add completion rules:
a) Click the name of the learning item
b) Click the three dots to the right
c) Select Completion rules from the dropdown menu
d) Amend the completion rules to suit your preferences
11. Click Visibility & Access in the top right to adjust the visibility settings. To learn more about this please visit this guide.
12. Click Publish in the top-right.
Important Note: If your Learner selects a Learning Item directly from within the Course and does not click the Enrol button, their enrolment in this course will not be recorded. To mitigate this as a Content Administrator, it is advised that you:
a) Navigate to the course
b) Select the Settings tab
b) Select the Enrolment settings option in the left-hand menu
c) Switch the Slider from No to YES beneath "Use existing enrolments for reused content"
d) Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen
This will ensure that if your Learners click directly on a Learning Item from within the course, their enrolment will be recorded.

Note: If a Learner completes a Course with embedded learning items, the record of completion will relate to the Course only. This means that any documents, interactives, videos that have been added to the Course won't have a separate, individual learning record. If this is required, please contact our Service Desk for support.
How to Embed Learning Items into Courses from the "Search your existing learning"... section
1. Click My Teaching in the top menu

6. Give your module a name and description in the space provided
7. Click the x to close the module name and description screen.
8. Then Either
a) Click your cursor in the "Search your existing learning..." bar to search for learning items
b) Click the Recent or Popular or Suggested tab and look through the learning items in these lists
7. Click the plus button next to the learning item and this will add it to your course
9. Optional: To add completion rules:
a) Click the learning item name
b) Click the three dots to the right
c) Select Completion rules from the dropdown menu
d) Amend the completion rules to suit your preferences
10. Click Visibility & Access in the top right to adjust the visibility settings. To learn more about this please visit this guide.
